Great hearts!

Three children live with their grandparents. The oldest two are boys that have become teenagers. The youngest one is a 7 year old girl. Here is their story.

One day the oldest grandson asked for permission from the grandma to go to a market for buying some glue. The grandma asked what the glue for. The grandson didn’t want to tell the reason. But the grandma kept asking, so that finally he told the grandma what the reason was. He said that he needed the glue to fix his shoes. The grandma then immediately checked his shoes. She found out that the shoes were totally broken. She also found out that they were already broken for weeks. The soles were completely detached from the shoes. And for weeks, the grandson used the shoelaces to attach them.

The grandma was very sad because of this. She wished that she had known this earlier. She asked the grandson why he didn’t tell her the problem so that she and the grandpa can buy him new shoes. He again didn’t want to tell her the reason. After a while, he told her the reason, “I do not want to bother you with this problem. Don’t worry grandma. I’m ok with these shoes”.

The grandma immediately checked the shoes of the other grandson. They were also broken. Not as bad as the brother’s shoes. But they were broken. There was a hole on the bottom side of one of the shoes. He also didn’t tell the grandma about the problem. He told the grandma that he would be fine. He also said that the grandma shouldn’t worry about this.

The grandparents decided to buy all grandchildren new shoes. They know that even life was not easy anymore lately, shoes were primary needs. They would get the money somehow so that the grandchildren wouldn’t experience the same thing again.

Months passed. In one evening, the grandma saw the granddaughter opening and closing some drawers. The grandma asked her what she was looking for. She answered that she was looking for her old shoes. She did that because the shoes she wore to school every day were already too small for her. She even had to bend her toes to be able to wear the shoes. When the grandma asked her why she didn’t tell her the problem, she said, “I don’t want to bother you since I know that you don’t have much money”. The grandma was tearful. She kept wondering how a very young girl could understand a difficult situation faced by the grandparents. How she had grown up so fast in such a young age.

When the grandma asked her to go shoes shopping, the granddaughter asked her again and again, “Are you sure this is ok? Are you sure you do have the money?”

People say that the children are not good enough. People say they are not smart enough. People say the grandparents shouldn’t be bothered about them.

What I can say is that I'm very proud of them. I hope that their future will be as bright as their hearts.
